What is it?
Based in Walthamstow, E17, in the London Borough of Waltham Forest, the ACF Youth Centre is the epicentre of the organisation’s activities. It provides a safe, nurturing and fun environment where young people from the local community can spend structured and unstructured time interacting with ACF volunteers and young people their own age. Offering everything from career advice to table tennis via the football club and arcade games, there is more than enough to keep even the most disaffected young person engaged.
Who is it for?
The Youth Centre is open to all young people, regardless of ethnicity, background or religious beliefs, aged 18 or below, who live in the London Borough of Waltham Forest. As an initiative it is particularly aimed at those from disadvantaged communities. In order to make use of its facilities you need to become a member, but membership is free.
The Centre has provided a focal point for young people since its launch in 2003, keeping them off the streets and away from dangerous thoughts and influences. Being a member of the Centre creates a sense of belonging for at-risk young people and has been instrumental in helping reduce anti-social behaviour in the local area. Many members have gone on to become police officers and solicitors, giving back to their communities.
