Outreach Programme

Outreach

What is it?

The ACF Outreach Programme is made up of a diverse group of members from the local community who go out into the local area patrolling the streets, going into schools and colleges to deliver workshops, and make individuals aware of issues that are of concern to parents and teachers such as radicalisation and gang crime. Young people at risk whom they meet on the street are invited to become a part of the ACF Youth Centre and attend open discussion and workshops where they can learn more about issues that affect them.

Who is it for?

The aim of the Programme is to reach young people who have fallen through the cracks and not had the opportunity to be part of other community initiatives. The priority is to make contact and engage with young people at risk of being lured down the wrong path by gang members and extremists.

Why?

Young people are vulnerable to messages of hatred, violence and extremism, both online and on the streets. It is important that there’s a freely available counter narrative to this, which is exactly what the Outreach Programme delivers by putting ACF’s volunteers on the streets and in schools to ensure that young people receive a positive view about what life can offer.

How?

If you would like to be a volunteer then email us enquiries@activechangefoundation.org or pop into the Centre to see us. Outreach takes place around Waltham Forest, Monday-Friday and mentoring takes place in the ACF Youth Centre.

Testimonial

“The ACF has helped me rebuild my life. I was helped by one of the outreach officers when I was being troubled by a group of boys. The outreach officer came to me to ask if everything was OK, and whether I needed help. I am thankful to the ACF because I was in care at the time and living away from home. The ACF helped me rebuild my relationship with my family and re-evaluate my life and helped me come out of a stressful time in my life. I have since got married and have a wonderful family.” A young 20-year-old female

NewGen Magazine

Our Motive

DSC_0005 (3)Young people are becoming more a more distrustful of national and international news outlets. This is contributing to the animosity that some are feeling, whilst they are reading or watching reports on conflicts that strike these young people on a personal level. To counter this, we set out to create a youth oriented magazine, focussed on addressing issues they may be facing and reporting on news appropriately.

NewGen was theorized as an informative and trustworthy initiative, which would really appeal to the young people of Waltham Forest and London, with hopes of further expansion in the future.

Our Success

NewGen has now been running since late 2012, starting as a news letter and quickly developing into a fully fledged magazine. The magazine has had numerous different contributors and continues to cover a huge range of different topics. The content is diverse and the magazine is sure to have something that will interest anyone who picks it up.

For those who are unable to receive a physical copy, NewGen is available online:
