Muslim resistance: Back from the brink
Back from the Brink, the third film, follows the Active Change Foundation, an organisation based in London. Brothers Hanif and Imtiaz Qadir went to Afghanistan in 2002 to fight British and American troops. But what they saw there changed their thinking completely. Returning to Britain, they began trying to persuade other Muslims to reject al-Qaida, and warning policy makers of the looming threat. After the 7 July 2005 bombings in London, the government set up the Preventing Violent Extremism programme, working with the ACF on tackling extremism. The brothers' journey gives them a unique insight into how the extremist ideology and rhetoric can persuade young Muslims to join the extremist cause. And this insight has helped keep the streets of Britain safe.
Young Leaders Project Ceremony 2009
In July 2010, ACF hosted an event to mark the graduation and success of the Young Leaders Project 2009. The event was attended by partner organisations and members from the community as well as youth from the project and youth associated with ACF. Partner organisations included local and national police, local government, military associates, various voluntary organisation representatives and many other partners involved in similar work with ACF.
This was the first time ACF showcased its work in this manner and gave credit to the young leaders for their hard work during the Young Leaders Project. The young people were given awards and an opportunity to exercise their skills acquired by speaking to the audience with regards to their vision for change in the community and the actions they intend to take. Partners were also presented awards as a token of appreciation.
ACF took the opportunity to highlight the vision and mission of ACF and spoke openly to the community and partners on what needs to be done in order to improve and safeguard our community. The event was a success and raised ACF’s profile further within the community.
